What Is Real Messenger?

Real Messenger is a social media platform built specifically for the real estate industry. Launched in 2022, it was created to give real estate professionals—agents, brokers, and investors—a dedicated space to market properties, connect with clients, and grow their networks without the noise of general social platforms.

Unlike Facebook or Instagram, Real Messenger’s entire ecosystem is real estate–focused. Users can post listings, share property videos, and engage with others who are actively interested in buying, selling, or investing. Its interface feels similar to Instagram, but every post, story, and message is tailored toward real estate content and transactions.

One standout feature is RealMoment, a tool that lets agents record short-form video content to showcase listings, give market updates, or share personal insights, making property marketing more visual and engaging. The app also uses AI to personalize content feeds, ensuring users see relevant opportunities and posts based on their interests.

Real Messenger was co-founded by Thomas Ma and Fredrik Eklund, combining deep real estate experience with tech-forward thinking. It’s available on both iOS and Android and is quickly gaining traction as the go-to real estate social platform for serious professionals.

About the Founders

Real Messenger is the vision of two powerhouse names in the real estate industry: Thomas Ma and Fredrik Eklund. Together, their combined expertise in real estate, technology, and branding has shaped Real Messenger into a cutting-edge real estate platform tailored for modern professionals.

Thomas Ma, the current CEO of Real Messenger, is a seasoned real estate entrepreneur and a respected figure in the PropTech space. A native of Hong Kong, Ma comes from a family of top-tier real estate developers and has deep experience in building tech-forward real estate solutions. Prior to launching Real Messenger, he founded HOHOJO, a rental marketplace and leasing management system. Ma has also contributed thought leadership to major real estate publications, particularly on how artificial intelligence is shaping the future of property marketing.

Joining him is Fredrik Eklund, the platform’s Chief Visionary Officer. Known to millions as the star of Bravo’s hit show Million Dollar Listing New York, Eklund is a global force in luxury real estate, with over $15 billion in closed sales. He’s also a bestselling author (The Sell) and co-founder of the elite Eklund | Gomes Team, one of the most successful real estate teams in the world.

With Ma’s PropTech background and Eklund’s unmatched brand presence, Real Messenger is uniquely positioned to revolutionize how real estate professionals connect, market, and grow their business in today’s digital landscape.

How Does Real Messenger Work?

Real Messenger works like a hybrid between a social media platform and a real estate marketplace, built specifically for professionals in the industry. Instead of wasting time with unqualified leads on generic apps, this real estate app connects you with a focused audience that’s actively engaged in real estate conversations, deals, and listings.

  • Create a profile as an agent, investor, or real estate professional
  • Post listings with images, videos, and descriptions for maximum visibility
  • Use RealMoment to share short-form video content about properties or market insights
  • Leverage AI-driven feeds to discover listings and connections tailored to your interests
  • Direct message users to negotiate deals, follow up on listings, or network

In short, Real Messenger simplifies real estate marketing by giving you the tools to promote listings, build your brand, and connect with serious prospects, all in one place.

Pros and Cons of Using Real Messenger

Real Messenger offers a refreshing take on real estate communication and marketing, but like any tool, it comes with strengths and limitations. Below is a quick breakdown to help you decide if this real estate app fits your business goals.

Pros

  • Real estate–focused audience: Every user is involved in real estate, making connections and content highly relevant.
  • Modern, social-first interface: Real Messenger combines the functionality of a real estate platform with the feel of a social media app.
  • AI-powered personalization: Smart feeds and sentiment analysis deliver curated listings, insights, and user matches.
  • Dynamic content creation: Features like RealMoment make it easy to share video tours, market updates, and personal branding content.
  • Direct messaging & real-time communication: Built-in chat tools streamline negotiation, collaboration, and lead follow-up.
  • Location-based filters: Users can tailor their feed to specific markets, enhancing localized deal-making and networking.

Cons

  • Limited user base (for now): As a newer platform, Real Messenger is still growing its active community compared to mainstream apps.
  • Mobile-only experience: The app is optimized for mobile devices, which may limit functionality for desktop users.
  • No MLS integration (yet): Traditional listing platforms offer broader access to property databases, which Real Messenger currently lacks.
  • Premium features require upgrade: Some of the more advanced tools—like enhanced visibility or analytics—are gated behind a paid tier.

Overall, Real Messenger is a promising and innovative property marketing tool for agents and investors ready to embrace modern real estate networking. While it’s still expanding, its unique approach offers a compelling edge for professionals looking to grow their presence in today’s digital market.

Real Messenger vs. Competitors

real messenger competitor review

While Real Messenger is genuinely innovative, it’s one in a long string of commercial real estate apps aimed at nurturing connections between real estate professionals and clients. Here’s how it performs against the competition:

Real Messenger vs. 1060

The 1060 app, often called TenSixty, is a social network app incredibly similar to Real Messenger. Like Real Co., the 1060 app employs video-based listings. Agents can capture and instantly upload 60-second-long videos of their listings on the app, providing an immersive viewing experience. It also has a dedicated chat feature enabling users to quickly reach out and communicate with agents and investors whose properties they might be interested in.

However, unlike Real, the app also offers a property search function. It allows users to refine their property search based on price, number of rooms, real estate agent, brokerage, and specific keywords, greatly simplifying the user experience. But even so, Real offers a better user experience with its agent-curated content. Additionally, the Real app features an explore section, while the 1060 app doesn’t.

While both platforms are free, onboarding on the 1060 app is a hassle as agents must go through a vetting process done by the 1060 team. The vetting process is based on the agent’s online listing presence, social media, and website activity. It technically means that first-time agents or seasoned agents with no social media presence or websites cannot leverage it. However, it's worth noting that Real predominantly caters to high-end listings. In contrast, the 1060 app welcomes properties across various price points.

In summary, both platforms come with their advantages and drawbacks. Your choice should align with the requirements and circumstances that best suit your needs.

Real Messenger vs. Ri.la

Ri.la, is a free real estate app similar to Real Messenger. It enables real estate professionals to share listings through high-quality images and videos. Like Real, Ri.la uses artificial intelligence to enhance and push agent listings to user feeds, enhancing their visibility.

On the other hand, users can like agent posts, training the app’s AI assistant on their preferences and consequently improving the quality of the content they see on their feeds.

Ri.la also features a chat function similar to Whatsapp, which helps streamline communication. Ultimately, Real Messenger and Ri.la are identical, except that while the former is available in Android and IoS, Ri.la is only available for iPhone users.

Final Thoughts: Is Real Messenger Worth It?

After deep diving into its founders, features, and competitors during our Real Messenger review, the app emerges as a transformative force in the real estate industry. It adequately addresses the limitations of traditional social media platforms for real estate professionals. For instance, it’s designed exclusively for the real estate community, providing users with relevant, accurate information whenever needed.

The platform’s emphasis on agent-curated content empowers real estate professionals to market themselves better and control their listings for free, while localized networking fosters meaningful connections. However, while it offers an awesome set of features, Real Messenger is still a relatively new app in the market, and it’s hard to recommend in its current state.
